Cartoon Network

A fun, interactive app that lets kids design their own Cartoon Network TV idents. Using animated stickers, colourful backgrounds and creative tools, children can build personalised clips and submit them for a chance to be shown on air.

The Challenge

Cartoon Network wanted to turn passive viewers into active creators by giving kids the power to make and share their own broadcast-quality TV idents. The app also needed to support a multilingual audience and include parental consent and moderation workflows.

My Role:

Lead designer (UI / UX)

Product:

Art App

Produced at:

Aer Studios

Target Audience:

Children aged 5-12 and parents/guardians of these children

The Solution

We developed a vibrant, interactive app for iOS and Android that lets kids bring their creativity to life by designing unique TV idents.

With tools for colouring backgrounds, adding animated stickers of beloved Cartoon Network characters, and personalising transitions, kids could submit their creations to Cartoon Network with secure parental approval for the chance to see them on TV.

Concept development

I started with concept storyboards, app user flows and then moved through

low-fidelity UX wireframes.

Bringing it to life

I designed high-fidelity visuals, creating an interface that felt playful, easy to use and on brand. I implemented clear onboarding, engaging UI for the paint tools such as brushes, pallets and patterns.

The app’s orientation adapts to each task, switching to landscape for painting tools and back to portrait for simple UGC submissions, with multilingual support for Cartoon Network’s APAC audience.

Keeping It Fresh

I directed the production of regularly updated asset packs with new stickers, animated characters, and themed line art backgrounds.

I also created animated prototypes to communicate how things like screen transitions should work, collaborating closely with developers and providing regular demos to the Cartoon Network team for feedback and alignment.

The results

The “Cartoon Network - By Me” app was a resounding success. Within the first three months, the app reached over 95,000 downloads across the APAC region and received over 121,000 unique creations.

Kids embraced the opportunity to create, share, and see their content on the platform, and Cartoon Network reported high engagement rates with frequent submissions.
